Yesterday, we made one of those small but important autumn preparations that mean a lot to both us and the dogs. We drove to a farm in Hedemora that sells small bales, perfect for carrying, handling, and dividing in the enclosure without it becoming heavy or cumbersome.
There's always something special about loading in fresh hay. Not just for us. Especially for the dogs.
As soon as we start putting fresh hay into the kennels, the same thing happens every time. The dogs go straight in, throw themselves down, roll around, and truly enjoy it. It's like their whole body relaxes. They love the feeling of new soft hay in their kennels.
And this hay was something extra special. Dry, light, clean, and with a faint scent of a summer meadow. A scent that almost feels like a memory.
I imagine that when the dogs are tucked in, curled up in it during the cold winter nights, perhaps they dream of summer. Of warm days, green paths, and everything that the hay carries with it from the fields where it grew. As if the scents of summer follow them into winter.
It's a beautiful thought. And one of all the small preparations we make now as the temperature slowly begins to drop and the season changes.
When the puppies aren't out playing with mama Mys, we're training for something completely different. Short little walks on a leash. Itâs a safe and suitable first introduction to the world outside the pen, where they get to familiarize themselves with everything that belongs to the village. Cars rolling by, chickens pecking in the gravel, goats curiously looking up, and other dogs barking a little curiously as you pass by.
These are small encounters, short moments, but important training for the future. Here, the foundation is laid for the puppies' self-confidence, their curiosity, and their ability to handle new impressions. And it's so nice to see how they grow from it step by step, tail wag by tail wag.
